This Joan Cooney
is not like the others..

Joan Cooney is the team leader, top producer and chief creator for that famous public television show Sesame Street. She is unique because she is famous and she is a native of Arizona. She was a Phoenician, born (in 1929) and raised in Arizona. She went to North High School. Her grandfather was elected Mayor of Phoenix for three terms. She graduated from the Universtiy of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in education.

A psycologist once told Joan that she was the only client that had enjoyed a happy adolesence. Maybe this is some insight into how she could express that happiness through the Children's Television Workshop.

Ms. Cooney is the hard work behind public televisions creation and production of the Children's Television Workshop. "One of these things is not like the other..." was one of her first collabrative creations. She has blessed the lives of millions of children through her good works and continues to do so to this day.

Joan consulted on the show, “Captain Kangaroo” Making it more competitive from an educational format.

“I have one box, I have two boxes... Ooohh! See Ms. Cooney, Grover has three boxes... Kermit & Miss Piggy shall forever be the quintessential duet. Bffs = Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, and Elmo. One- two- three- four- five six- seven- eight- nine- ten. (eleven, twelve).
